What is a shopfitter?

A shopfitter is a qualified and licenced professional specialising in the fitout of commercial premises including; retail shops, cafes, restaurants and even offices and medical practices.

A shopfitter can manage and oversea your fitout from inception to completion.

Shopfitting companies can often assist with design and specification prior to construction or simply come in to execute the designs prepared by others. Typically, the shopfitter is appointed as the principal contractor and as such is responsible for the management and coordination of all aspects of a fitout, this generally includes:

  • Lodgement of building approvals and certification

  • Design or design management

  • Demolition (when required)

  • Installation and supervision of all trade works (signage, plumbing, electrical, paining, flooring, carpentry, ventilation, glazing etc)

  • Fabrication/supply of fixtures and fittings

  • Supply and installation of equipment

  • Budget management

  • Time management

  • Liaising with external parties – ie centre managers, RDMs (Retail Design Managers)

Whether you need a shopfitter for purely construction of your project or to manage and oversea the entire process choosing the right shopfitter for you is a very important decision.
